Specifically, this course was designed to remind drivers they are responsible for securing all cargo, verifying securement before driving and at regular intervals during the trip, using the correct number of tiedowns and inspecting securement devices for damage.

This Corrective Action Training: Cargo Securement: Dry Van course covers the following topics:

  • Loose cargo could injure someone. Moving cargo could make your trailer unstable.
  • Loose equipment could fall to the roadway.
  • The load becomes your responsibility, including cargo securement.
  • Ensure all equipment is secured.
  • You’ll need to add securement if there are any gaps in cargo.
  • Be sure to inspect and adjust securement devices during your trip.
  • No added securement needed if cargo is loaded to prevent shifting and tipping.
  • If your trailer is sealed, get permission to break the seal or documentation.
